The Boston Red Sox dismantled the Baltimore Orioles on Friday afternoon, winning 19-5.
Boston did everything right on both sides of the baseball, a very impressive sign as the team is looking to get going.
Unfortunately, star third baseman Alex Bregman left with quad tightness. The last thing the Red Sox want right now is for Bregman to be out.
According to Alex Cora, it was "just tight," and the team is hopeful everything will be fine by Saturday.
"Just tight," Cora said of the injury to Bregman, per PFSN. "We'll see how he comes in tomorrow. So he won't play the second one [on Friday night]. He'll get treatment. We'll know more tomorrow."
If things aren't fine for the Red Sox and Bregman, Cora added that they could get creative with where players play. The Red Sox have options, and while they aren't anything close to Bregman, that's a somewhat positive sign for now.
"Ceddanne [Rafaela] can play third. [Nick Sogard] can play third. [Abraham] Toro can play third. We know Connor [Wong] can do it. In case of an emergency, we can move [Kristian Campbell] to the outfield and Ceddanne to the infield and go from there," Cora added.
It's important that the Boston Red Sox don’t go overboard with Bregman.
Any injury to Bregman is unfortunate, but the situation only worsens if they rush him back and he suffers a setback that sidelines him for an extended period.
If anything, the Red Sox must be cautious and give him as much time as he needs to recover fully.
