Carlos Carrasco to the major league roster.
This is the third time this season that Carrasco has found his way back to the Braves' big-league roster.
Atlanta has a full starting rotation, so the likely plan for Carrasco is to provide length out of the Braves' bullpen as a long relief pitcher.
This season, the 39-year-old has made four appearances for the Braves and allowed just two runs in 7.1 innings. He has also struck out four batters and walked none.
Last year, Carrasco pitched for both the Braves and the New York Yankees. Overall, the righty posted a 7.09 ERA in 45.2 innings (11 appearances, nine starts).
Carrasco certainly isn't the solid starter that he used to be, however, he has been decent in limited action this season. The hope is that he can get some outs in the Braves' bullpen in long relief.
The Braves needed another arm in their bullpen and Carrasco, who was just out righted to Triple-A Gwinnett before electing free agency for the second time in a month, was the hurler chosen for the job.
Carrasco most recently pitched on May 27, where he tossed four innings and gave up two runs against the Boston Red Sox. Atlanta designated him for assignment two days later.
Now, the Braves have re-signed Carrasco to a one-year deal on June 2.
Carrasco holds a career 112-105 record and 4.22 ERA in 339 appearances and 286 starts. His best years came in Cleveland where he had a 3.91 ERA in 12 seasons.
As for the Braves, they're currently leading the National League East division by 9.5 games over the Philadelphia Phillies. Atlanta also has the best record in all of baseball at 40-20.
