Trey Yesavage appears to be ready for big league action.

On Tuesday evening, the Toronto Blue Jays’ first-round pick in 2024 appeared out of the bullpen for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, and had his best outing in the final stop of his minor league career.

Overall, he went three innings, allowing two hits, a walk, and striking out six to drop his Triple-A ERA to 3.86. The 21-year-old didn’t start the game, instead coming out of the bullpen in the top of the second.

Getting up 0-2 against the lead-off hitter, José Azocar hit a double to kick-start the inning. However, Yesavage was able to strike out Luke Ritter on a 94 mph fastball, got a lineout, and then a second strikeout to leave the baserunner stranded.

Yesavage made light work of the Syracuse Mets’ lineup in the top of the third. Jett Williams went down on three pitches, staring at an 83.3 mph splitter. Francisco Álvarez struck out on four pitches, swinging on a high-80s slider. To end the inning, Yesavage caught Ryan Clifford starting on a 94.4 mph foul that he painted at the top of the zone.

In Yesavage’s final inning, Carson Benge grounded out on the second pitch he saw, but a Met finally got on base again as former Blue Jay Luis De Los Santos hit a single. Azocar walked, but Yesavage struck out Ritter for the second time in the game. His final pitch saw Yonny Hernández ground out.

Diving deeper into the stats, Yesavage threw 54 pitches, 35 of which were for strikes. His fastball sat at 93.7 mph, but maxed out at 94.5 mph. The heater generated eight total swings, only two of them for whiffs. Yesavage’s secondaries were what led to his success, as the splitter generated five whiffs on nine total swings and the slider generated two whiffs on three total pitches. Overall, Yesavage finished with a 45 whiff%.

The fact that Yesavage only pitched three innings and threw just over 50 pitches is interesting, as he was up to 83 pitches in his previous outing. It seems like Yesavage could come up in a bulk reliever role at some point this season.
