The Cleveland Guardians were eliminated from the playoffs on Thursday, and nobody took the defeat harder than one fan who was shown on TV.
Cleveland lost 6-3 to the Detroit Tigers at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio, in the deciding Game 3 of their American League wild-card series. The game was tight for most of the way, with the Tigers leading 2-1 through six innings. But Detroit broke out with a four-run 7th inning to make it 6-1. Though the Guardians added two runs in the 8th, it wasn’t enough as the Tigers got the victory.
ESPN didn’t exactly do the Cleveland faithful any favors. They showed one fan with a palm over his face after the loss.

Yep, it’s going to be a tough night for that fan.
Cleveland’s season ending like that is particularly hard after all the hope they gave their fans. The team was 40-48 at their worst as of July 6. They were even under .500 as of Sept. 4 (69-70)/ The Tigers had a big lead in the AL Central, but the Guardians didn’t give up. They won 15 of 16 and caught the Tigers to win the division. For Cleveland to have given their fans so much hope only to end up falling short in the playoffs has to hurt. It still was a season the Guardians should be proud of.
