The Arizona Diamondbacks have recalled RHP Carlos Vargas from Triple-A Reno after placing LHP Tyler Gilbert on the Paternity List.

This will mark Carlos Vargas’ second stint with the Diamondbacks this season. The 23-year-old out of the Dominican Republic made five appearances in May, where he allowed three earned runs in 4.2 innings.

With Reno this season, Vargas has struggled immensely, holding an 8.74 ERA through 22.2 innings. In his most recent appearance on July 7th, Vargas gave up seven earned runs in just one inning.

On the other hand, Tyler Gilbert was just recently pulled up to make his season debut against the Pirates on Saturday. In a 3-2 win, Gilbert provided three innings of relief, allowing just one earned run.

The Diamondbacks have a chance for a series sweep at 1:10 PM with Zach Davies on the mound. It is Arizona’s final game before the All-Star break.
