The Baltimore Orioles have announced their decision to decline the club option on Eloy Jimenez for the 2025 season, sending him into free agency for the first time in his career.
Jimenez, known for his power (and injury track record) is now on the lookout for a new home, marking a significant chapter in his big league career after his tenure with both the Chicago White Sox and the Orioles.
The Orioles ultimately opted against retaining Jimenez for another season, a decision that will only cost them a $3 million buyout likely came easy after the former White Sox DH struggled mightily throughout 2024 and came with a $16.5 million price tag next season. In 33 games with Baltimore following the trade deadline, Jimenez slashed a paltry .232/.270/.316 with just one home run.
When healthy Jimenez's power potential is undeniable. However, he has spent much of his career battling through a litany of injuries and offers little to no upside defensively or on the basepaths. Despite these issues, he will likely land a low-risk high-reward deal from a club looking to take a flier on a power bat at a relatively low cost.
