When Angel Genao received the nod to take his talents to the highest level of the game, there was uncertainty surrounding how he would look.

After all, the 22-year-old was still a pretty raw prospect, even though he had been dominating down in Triple-A Columbus.

But when he arrived, Genao came with a head full of steam and gave the Cleveland Guardians little to be concerned about.

On Saturday, August 22, the Guardians squared off against the Colorado Rockies, downing them 4-3. Genao, who yet again ended up in the starting lineup, went 1-for-4. While he didn't necessarily do too much to impact the game, his consistency has routinely helped this team feel comfortable.

He has only no-hit in five of his first 15 big-league games, and extended his hitting streak to five-straight on Saturday.

He now owns a .315/.373/.426 slashing line for an OPS of .799. He has posted 17 hits, three doubles and one home run, all while pushing three runners across home plate and scoring eight times himself. In his major league debut, he nearly helped the Guardians take down the New York Mets with a go-ahead RBI. However, the bullpen collapsed and his efforts ended up being overshadowed.

If he is able to routinely get on base the way he has, all while providing pop in various moments, he will certainly have a spot in the lineup for years to come.

And it isn't just his play at the plate that is helping contribute to the Guardians' success; as defensively, he has taken leaps forward.

In Friday’s win over the Rockies, he made back-to-back stellar plays at shortstop, making grabs on the run before firing across the diamond to first and later turning a double play all by himself. Both helped the Guardians limit a potential Rockies rally at home.

Those moments of intuition cannot be taught. Instead, they are ingrained in the mind of a young star who has been waiting for his opportunity to prove himself at a position he knows well.

Genao owns a perfect 100% fielding mark while playing second base and shortstop, with 13 total putouts and 10 assists. He has played second base seven times and shortstop just three, but at both spots he looks reliable.

Playing third base, which has been a situation he has been thrust into for Jose Ramirez from time to time, he has had some bumps in the road. Across five starts and 43 innings of work, he owns an 86.7% fielding mark, with two errors across 15 defensive chances. He has recorded two putouts and 11 total assists, though.

It is obvious he feels comfortable down the middle of the field, but being able to suit up wherever needed has allowed more versatility for the coaching staff.

While the shortstop position may not be solely his, he has shown that when Brayan Rocchio needs an off day or the infield needs a switch-up, he can lock down the middle.

The future for Genao looks incredibly bright, especially with the timing that Ramirez is approaching the end of his career. More and more, Cleveland could look to him as a potential third baseman of the future.

And even if Rocchio or Travis Bazzana hit a hurdle in the road, he can fill their voids.

As long as the development track continues to be clean, the native of Castillo, Dominican Republic, is staring at an exciting career in the navy blue and red.
