Mike Trout Continues To Factor Into The MVP Conversation

Mike Trout may not have won the American League MVP Award in 2022, but the Los Angeles Angels slugger certainly wasn’t forgotten by writers who cast their votes.

The 31-year-old is no stranger to the MVP race, having won the award three times during his already storied career.

Trout won the award in 2014, 2016, and in 2019.

But in each year that Trout wasn’t given the award, he was at the very least considered, with the exception being 2021, as he missed a large chunk of the season due to injuries.

Angels insider Danny Vietti posted a tweet featuring a list of each year Trout has been in the big leagues and where he has finished in the MVP voting.

Trout’s MVP Prowess

Obviously, Trout has been a factor in the MVP race in almost every season since making his MLB debut in 2011, with that year and the 2021 season being the exceptions due to limited playing time.

But the list goes to show just how dominant of a player Trout truly is.

Trout finished eighth in the MVP voting in 2022, but despite being limited to just 119 games, the veteran slugger still managed to hit 40 home runs during the regular season, hitting for a .283 average and knocking in 80 runs.

Aaron Judge ultimately won the award, with Trout’s teammate Shohei Ohtani finishing in second place.

But that doesn’t mean that Trout wasn’t still a factor.

Each year, with the exception of 2021, he has received votes for the MVP Award, and in almost every season, he’s finished in the top five.
