The Toronto Blue Jays held their breath this Tuesday as outfielder Joey Loperfido suffered a scary-looking injury during the first inning against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Loperfido was trying to track a fly ball from Victor Scott II, but unfortunately he stumbled by the warning track and collided into the outfield wall. It was a pretty brutal sequence considering his head and neck area got crunched on this play.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider ran over to the outfield to check on Loperfido. He had the team's training staff by his side. After a quick chat, Loperfido walked over to the dugout and called it a day.
When this injury first occurred, MLB fans were seriously concerned about Loperfido's health. Thankfully, the latest update on him is very encouraging.
“He’s all right,” Schneider told reporters after the game. “No concussion symptoms or anything, he got that checked out. It’s more upper back and neck discomfort.
"Joey’s OK, so we’ll check him out tomorrow and hopefully he doesn’t miss much [time].”

Loperfido started in center field for the Blue Jays' past two home games. If he misses an extended period of time, that could really hurt his stock.
During the 2024 season, Loperfido appeared in 43 games for Toronto and had a .197 batting average. In limited time with the Houston Astros, however, he had a .236 batting average with 16 RBI.
It's possible Loperfido's injury will open the door for Nathan Lukes, Jonatan Clase and Myles Straw to get a look at center field.
