Mookie Betts Believes He Has Unlocked Full Offensive Potential

Mookie Betts continued his torrid stretch at the plate in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 10-4 win over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night, going 4-for-4 with three doubles, two RBI and a walk.

The big performance came after Betts hit two home runs in Friday’s series opener at Dodger Stadium as part of a 3-for-4 effort at the plate. He is now 10-for-12 with five extra-base hits, five RBI, five runs scored and three walks over his last three games.

“Yeah, I mean, this is it,” Betts said when asked if this is the version of himself that he has been chasing. “I know I’m still capable of it; it’s in there somewhere. So just got to keep on rolling, keep on, like I said, laying the foundation and letting the game be the game.”

Betts has been one of the Dodgers’ hottest hitters over the past month after struggling offensively for much of the season. He is hitting a stellar .359/.449/.652 with nine doubles, six home runs and 21 RBI over his last 28 games.

Betts attributed his recent success to seeing the ball better and his swing finally being in a good spot.

“Oh, I think it’s both,” Betts began. “Swing is a little more consistent, hitting balls in the middle of the zone hard, and able to take balls. So that’s the name of the game. Hit strikes hard and take balls.”

Betts has consistently tinkered with his swing this year and is now reaping the rewards of his hard work. His resurgence couldn’t have come at a better time for the Dodgers, who are playing out the final week of the regular season before beginning what they hope will be a deep playoff run.

Roberts has stood by Betts all season, but even he didn’t expect the eight-time All-Star to bounce back in such a big way.

“You know, I didn’t,” Roberts admitted. “I couldn’t tell you that I saw this, but I just felt that he was stronger. He’s worked hard on that. He looks great. He’s not going to stop working, and just for it to come together has been great.

“I think for me, it’s just trying to keep him confident. His teammates have poured into him, and again, it’s as good as we’ve seen him over a consistent period in a while.”
