The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Detroit Tigers by a final score of 13-3 in a Spring Training contest Monday. The win improved Toronto to 6-3 on the spring, while Detroit fell to 4-5.
Starting Tarik Skubal, the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner, Detroit has its best pitcher going for the first time this spring. The 6-foot-3 left-hander went three scoreless innings, surrendering just one hit and striking out three batters.
Toronto's runs came off a collection of relievers, including right-hander Ty Madden who lost control of a 91.3 MPH fastball that struck Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement in the face.
Clement was forced to leave the game, and the Blue Jays eventually announced an injury update.
"UPDATE: INF Ernie Clement was removed from today's game with a lip laceration and contusion," the team announced on X.

Later Monday evening, an update on Clement surfaced via the Gate 14 Podcast. Sharing an image of Clement, and seemingly a message from the utility infielder, the podcast revealed an encouraging update.
"GATE 14 EXCLUSIVE," the post began. "Per source unnamed: 'Let em know it’s gonna take more than a baseball to the teeth to keep the kid down!!'"

Clement is known for his positive interactions with fans, often engaging with the Cleveland fanbase on social media during his time with the Guardians to begin his MLB career.
A light hitter at the major league level, Clement owns just a .643 OPS for his career, but improved that to a .712 mark in 504 plate appearances for Toronto the last two seasons.
