Orioles Outright Luis Vazquez

Infielder Luis Vazquez has cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A, the Orioles announced. Vazquez was designated for assignment earlier this week when outfielder Luis Robert Jr. joined the roster. He could’ve elected free agency, but chose to stick in the Baltimore organization.

Vazquez appeared in one game for the Orioles. He pinch-ran for Samuel Basallo in the ninth inning of a matchup against the Cardinals last week. Vazquez came around to score what would be the game-winning run on a Christian Encarnacion-Strand double.

With utilityman Blaze Alexander returning over the weekend and CES earning semi-regular playing time, Baltimore didn’t have a clear role for Vazquez. His roster spot was needed when the club claimed Robert off waivers from the Mets. Vazquez will return to Norfolk and wait for another big-league opportunity. He can become a minor league free agent at the end of the season.

Vazquez has spent the majority of his pro career in the Cubs organization. He debuted with Chicago in 2024. The infielder was traded to the Orioles in a cash deal ahead of the 2025 season. Vazquez appeared in 36 games with Baltimore last year, but hit just .160 with a 26.4% strikeout rate. He has a .404 OPS in 48 games across parts of three MLB seasons.
