Pache Injury Not What Phillies Expected
USA TODAY Sports

Cristian Pache didn’t believe his knee injury was all that serious.

He was wrong.

Sadly.

The Philadelphia Phillies placed Pache on the 10-day injured list Saturday after learning that he suffered a right meniscus tear. Pache is scheduled to undergo surgery Monday with Phillies team physician Dr. Steven Cohen.

The estimated recovery time is unknown.

Dalton Guthrie was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take Pache’s place.

Pache doubled off Framber Valdez in the fifth inning of Friday’s 3-1 victory over the Houston Astros. When Pache took a lead toward third base, he stopped. Manager Rob Thomson took Pache out though he said he didn’t need to be lifted.

When Pache woke up Saturday he said: “That’s when I knew something was wrong, because it was hurting like hell.”

Pache left the game hitting .360 with one home run and two RBI. After recent struggles with the Atlanta Braves and Oakland Athletics, Pache appeared to have clicked with Phillies hitting coach Kevin Long. Hopefully, the knee injury won’t keep him sidelined for too long.

Guthrie performed admirably in a short stint for the Phillies last season. Guthrie was hitting .278 with two homers and nine RBI at Lehigh Valley when he was recalled.
