The Detroit Tigers will be getting a huge boost to their infield and lineup.
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told MLB Network Radio on Tuesday that infielder Gleyber Torres will be activated from the injured list tonight and be in the lineup versus Tampa Bay Rays left-handed starter Steven Matz.

Torres has been on the IL since May 4 with a left oblique strain. The Tigers sent him on a rehab assignment on May 30 and he played in two games with Triple-A Toledo.
Now, Torres is ready to come back to the big-league team after almost a month on the sideline with his oblique issue.
Before going down with injury, Torres was slashing .259/.389/.328 with a .717 OPS, two home runs and 11 RBI in 32 games. The lack of slugging was a bit concerning, as Torres only had four extra-base hits in 116 at-bats.
Regardless, the return of Torres should assist a Tigers' offense that is currently ranked No. 24 in baseball with a .232 batting average.
The Tigers, who hung on to beat the Rays 10-9 last night, are off to a brutal start in 2026. Despite having lofty expectations, Detroit is 23-38 and in last place in the American League Central division.
Torres is playing on a one-year, $22.025 million deal. If the Tigers continue their losing ways in the coming months, they will surely be sellers at the trade deadline on August 3.
This means that Torres will have to pick things up at the plate and stay healthy until the deadline if he wants to get traded to a contender. Torres, of course, will be a free agent after the season concludes.
Before joining the Tigers last season, Torres spent the first seven seasons of his career with the New York Yankees. He was an All-Star in his first two years in 2018 and 2019 before making the squad for a third time in 2025 with Detroit.
