New York Mets Add Another Reliever on Minor League Deal

The New York Mets are continuing to add to their bullpen with this latest addition. On Sunday, Jon Morosi of MLB.Network reported that New York is signing relief pitcher Oliver Ortega on a minor league deal, which includes an invitation to MLB spring training.

Mets Sign Oliver Ortega To Minors Contract

The Mets have signed right-hander Oliver Ortega to a minor league deal that includes an invitation to New York’s big league spring camp, MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reports (X link).  Ortega was outrighted off the Astros’ 40-man roster in November, and since it wasn’t his first career outright, he chose to enter free agency.

Houston Astros right-hander Oliver Ortega had a second surgery on his pitching elbow this week and will not appear in a game this season. Ortega, 27, made a pair of spring training appearances for the Astros before undergoing surgery in March to remove loose bodies in his right elbow.
