Alex Pereira is deep into what he describes as a ‘pre-camp’ ahead of his fight with Ciryl Gane at UFC Freedom 250 on 14 June.
A victory would make Pereira the first three-weight UFC champion ever, adding further significance to an already high-profile clash. That context has shaped his preparation from the earliest stages.
‘Poatan’ has based himself in Sobralia, a small city in Minas Gerais, where his coach Glover Teixeira owns a farm, and the quieter setting has allowed him to focus fully on his training.
Pereira shared a revealing update on his YouTube channel, explaining that his current preparation is already more intense than in previous fight camps. The comments suggest a shift in approach at a crucial stage.
He said: “I’m heavy and have a little bit of a belly right now. But soon you’ll see the transformation. I’m gonna look like a machine. It’s just the beginning.”
That statement alone points to a planned physical evolution before fight night, but it was his comparison with past camps that stands out most. Pereira admitted that at this same stage in earlier preparations, his workload was significantly lighter.
He added: “On previous preparations, around this time, I was chilling, having soft training sessions. Now, I’m getting my body stronger. We’ll have another six or seven weeks ahead of the fight. This is when I usually start [the hard work], and look where I am now.”
Those remarks highlight a clear increase in intensity and discipline, indicating that Pereira is approaching this fight differently from the outset. For Gane, that could be a concerning signal.
The two-weight UFC champion has already built a reputation for delivering under pressure and producing decisive performances across multiple weight classes. If he is now accelerating his preparation timeline, it suggests he could arrive sharper and more physically prepared than ever.
