‘Fun for who?’ Robert Whittaker brutally honest on UFC middleweight nobody wants to fight

Robert Whittaker doesn’t like the idea of fighting a contender ranked below him.

The former UFC Middleweight Champion was recently kicked out of the top-five for the first time since 2017, after suffering back-to-back losses to current champ Khamzat Chimaev and Reinier de Ridder.

Whittaker lost a closely-contested split decision to ‘RDR’ in the main event of UFC Abu Dhabi in July.

Turning 35 later this year, Whittaker recently called the UFC title a ‘pipe dream’ but isn’t thinking about retirement just yet.

As he navigates the rest of his career, Whittaker was asked about one fight in particular.

Robert Whittaker says Michael ‘Venom’ Page looks like a ‘really annoying fight’

On Submission Radio, Whittaker was proposed a ‘big fun fight’ with former Bellator star and top striker Michael ‘Venom’ Page.

Page is ranked #10 in the middleweight division after defeating Jared Cannonier, who wasn’t all that happy with the matchup either.

“Oh, man. I don’t know,” Whittaker said of potentially fighting Page.

“Fun for who?” Whittaker said with a laugh.

“I’m just a monkey dancing for everyone, am I?

“For one, he’s a cool dude. I like him. He’s hard not to like when you speak to him.

“I’m not going to say no to anyone,” Whittaker iterated.

“Like, I’ll fight anyone if the UFC wants it. But there’s a lot of other people to fight, man. He looks like a really annoying fight,” Whittaker said of Page.

“He’s got a great style that’s very elusive, and I don’t want to spend 25 minutes trying to get my mitts on him…”

The well-rounded Whittaker has been stopped by striking specialists Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson and Israel Adesanya previously in his UFC career.

Robert Whittaker on Michael ‘Venom’ Page: ‘Let’s say I’m going to fight him…’

Whittaker isn’t looking forward to doing another wrestling-heavy training camp.

In his last two fights, Whittaker had to do weeks and weeks of ground work for credentialed grapplers Khamzat Chimaev and Reinier de Ridder.

If he were to face a striker like Page, Whittaker says it’d be more of the same.

“Let’s say I am going to fight him,” Whittaker said hypothetically.

“Blueprint to beating him: you’ve got to take him down. Gotta get him on his back.

“Jared [Cannonier] looked great in that last round when he finally got him onto his back.

“I’m gonna have to do a camp of wrestling the whole time… I’ve done two of those already.

“It just seems like a pain in the a–,” Whittaker said.
