Carson Hocevar tops the speed chart in NASCAR Cup Series practice at Charlotte

Carson Hocevar paced the NASCAR Cup Series field in Coca-Cola 600 practice on Saturday afternoon.

The second-year driver turned a lap of 29.926 seconds to top the speed charts in the only practice session before the longest race of the NASCAR season.

Second-place Ty Gibbs was the only other driver to lay down a 29-second lap.

Gibbs, AJ Allmendinger, Denny Hamlin and Tyler Reddick rounded out the top five, with Erik Jones, Bubba Wallace, William Byron, Ross Chastain and Michael McDowell completing the top 10.

Other notable practice results include Chase Elliott in 12th, Shane van Gisbergen in 14th, Kyle Larson in 21st, defending Coke 600 winner Christopher Bell in 26th and Jimmie Johnson in 27th.

Unfortunately for Chastain, his practice came to an end when he blew a left-rear tire and crashed in turn 3.

"Down the backstretch, all the air came out of it all at once," Chastain told Prime Video. "I tried to keep it straight and brake as hard as I could in a straight line."

Kyle Busch suffered a steering issue after going out on track and did not post a speed in practice.

The Coca-Cola 600 will go green shortly after 6 p.m. ET on Sunday, with coverage on Prime Video, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Pre-race coverage will begin at 5 p.m. ET on Prime Video and PRN.
