Carmelo reveals why he never joined LeBron and Dwyane In Miami
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Carmelo Anthony will go down as one of the great scorers in basketball history. And while his list of accomplishments goes far, one of his most glaring shortcomings is his failure to win a Championship.

To Melo’s credit, none of his teams have been stacked with overwhelming talent, and he spent most of his career carrying mediocre rosters to playoff contention. Still, it doesn’t mean he never had the chance to join a “Super Team.”

“We all could’ve went down there to Miami. It could have been a way for all four of us could go to Miami. We would have had to take pay cuts but, I think at that point in time, all those guys had to take pay cuts anyway.

But, at that point in time, it was just like ‘what’s the numbers look like? Could we really do this?’ So, I don’t know where we would have ended up at.”

It seems all the limbo involved with teaming up was just too much for Melo to handle at the time. To take a pay cut, leave New York, and try to make it work with three other All-Stars would have come with a lot of sacrifice and unknowns.

Even though it may have cost him a ring, Carmelo chose a different path. The road wasn’t easy, but he is finding redemption with the Trail Blazers, where he has sacrificed his own status to become one of their most important players.
