The Sacramento Kings lost to the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday in the 9-10 play-in tournament game. For the second straight year, the Kings will miss the postseason.
A few hours after Sacramento lost to Dallas, Shams Charania of ESPN reported that the Kings and general manager Monte McNair mutually agreed to part ways. McNair spent five seasons running the Kings, winning NBA executive of the year in 2023 when Sacramento went 48-34 and ended an NBA record 16-year postseason drought.
The Kings' roster is headlined by Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine. The three All-Stars are under contract for next season and each player will make significant money.
Sabonis will make $43.6 million, DeRozan will make $24.8 million and LaVine will make $47.5 million in 2025-26.
Sam Amick and Anthony Slater of The Athletic reported in March that Sabonis is expected to seek clarity about the Kings' plan this summer.
With that report in mind, some people believe Sabonis and Sacramento could part ways this offseason.
Domantas Sabonis, who reportedly plans to speak with the Kings about their future plans, will make $140.3 million over the next three years:

Sabonis has appeared in 246 games with the Kings, who acquired the lefty from the Indiana Pacers in 2022 in the Tyrese Haliburton trade.
Sabonis is averaging 19.2 points, 13.2 rebounds, 7.1 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.5 blocks with Sacramento.
The Kings traded De'Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs this season. Mike Brown was fired as head coach before Fox was traded.
After making the playoffs in 2023, Sacramento has had two straight disappointing seasons. There could be major changes coming for the Kings this summer.
Sabonis turns 29 in May. He's in the prime of his career. The three-time All-Star has never reached the NBA Finals and just missed the playoffs for the second year in a row.
It will be fascinating to see if Sabonis and the Kings part ways this summer. If Sacramento shops Sabonis, plenty of teams will likely have interest in the big man.
