PHOENIX– Idols become rivals, and Jalen Green and Stephen Curry have that dynamic. After the latter defeated the Phoenix Suns guard last season in the 2025 first round, there was retribution, so much so that Green had the last laugh following the 111-96 beatdown.
Still, both men met after the game and shared an embrace. Cameras caught the two talking, particularly Curry parting some wisdom onto Green. As a result, he elaborated more on the exchange.
“He’s just telling me, ‘go handle business in OKC,'” Green explained.
Midway through his explanation, he detailed the journey he’s taken with Curry.
“I was maybe 16 years old, and he was having me come out to Oakland to work out with him. He’s kind of been somewhat of a mentor.
“I was able to get his number, reach out through these years. He’s been kind of something like a mentor. Playing against him is always great. One of the greatest shooters, greatest players of all time.”

In this contest, it was Green who ended up performing better. A 36-point masterpiece isn’t easy after posting 35 in Phoenix’s loss to the Portland Trail Blazers in the first Play-In game.
Green is a more fiery competitor in the game. His play style reflects his personality on the hardwood. In his first playoff series, he faced off against Curry and had quite the realization about the playoffs.
Some guys take their games to another level, and the Warriors point guard does just that.
It was a looming point surrounding Green and if that was a one-off or something that will unfortunately sustain. Through two Play-In games, he’s proved that last season was a fever dream.
As Curry said, ‘Go handle business in OKC,’ a mantra that the entire team will follow suit of.
