Giannis Antetokounmpo is likely going nowhere, at least for the 2025-26 NBA season.
When the Milwaukee Bucks decided to waive Damian Lillard this offseason, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future became a major talking point.
After all, the Bucks haven’t had an ounce of success in the postseason in recent years, and getting rid of the second-best player on the roster didn’t seem like a smart choice.
However, the Bucks have arguably rectified their mistake by signing Giannis’ older brother, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, to a one-year, $2.9 million deal. A move that led to fans making a LeBron James point.
Prior to the 2024-25 NBA season, Thanasis was a member of the Bucks for five years. However, due to suffering a torn Achilles tendon injury, the Bucks decided to part ways with him.
But with Thanasis now healthy and playing for Greece, the franchise has brought him to the team. Former NBA player Jeff Teague recently discussed the move on the Club 520 podcast.
“I told y’all he only plays well when his brother is around, though, not that he can’t hoop without his brother, but when his brother is there, he’s hooping, hooping,” Teague said.
As a former member of the Bucks, Teague also joked that Antetokounmpo is a ‘part-owner’ of the team, essentially accusing the 2x NBA MVP of calling the shots instead of the front office.
Considering the fact that the Greek Freak is still in the prime of his career, losing him would instantly send the Bucks to a rebuilding phase.
However, with Thanasis’ return, it’s safe to assume that Antetokounmpo isn’t going anywhere, at least to start the season.
But did the Bucks bring back Thanasis for this reason alone? Well, the 33-year-old doesn’t seem to think so.
Instead, Thanasis revealed that the Bucks staff was excited to see his performance for Greece during the 2025 EuroBasket opener against Italy.
