The Golden State Warriors’ turbulent 2025–26 season has officially come to a close, leaving the franchise at a massive crossroads.
Following a season-ending 111–96 Play-In Tournament loss to the Phoenix Suns on Friday, Kristaps Porzingis broke his silence regarding his future in the Bay Area, admitting to deep uncertainty as he prepares for unrestricted free agency.
For Porzingis, the two months since his trade from Atlanta have been a summary of his career, where he showed flashes of elite, game-changing potential, also including health setbacks.
The Latvian big man was remarkably candid in his post-season assessment, telling reporters that while he enjoyed the Warriors’ world-class organization, his lack of availability continues to weigh on his mind.
“Not one bad thing I can say about the organization, the team, the teammates,” he said via California Post. “I really love it here, I really do. As I said before, I haven’t had a good year. If I had a good year, I think I’d have a more clear picture of what I want to do. Because I’ve had an up-and-down year like this, this is an offseason in my career that I think I’m just going to take a step back, look at the whole picture, and then see what’s the best direction for me.”
Kristaps Porzingis says he’s going to take a step back and see what’s the best direction for him when asked about returning to the Warriors:

However, Porzingis’ tenure in the Bay Area was severely limited by a diagnosis of Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, also called POTS, and a late-season ankle injury.
He managed just 15 regular-season games for the Warriors, averaging 16.1 points and 5.3 rebounds. His final appearance was particularly frustrating, coming after a 20-point masterclass in Wednesday’s Play-In opener.
While Steve Kerr praised Porzingis as a player who changed our team, the Warriors face a grueling math problem this summer. Porzingis is coming off the final year of a deal that paid him $30.7 million.
Sources suggest that if he wants to remain with Golden State, he will likely have to accept a significant salary reduction.
The Warriors are already going through a bloated cap sheet and face franchise-altering decisions regarding Stephen Curry’s next move and the possible trade of Draymond Green.
Porzingis noted that his health will play the biggest role in his decision-making. But he isn’t the only one facing a last dance scenario.
The season-ending loss was an emotional moment for the Dubs’ core, with Steve Kerr seen embracing Curry and Green on the floor in what many felt was a final glimpse of the end of a dynasty.
However, with nothing promised and everything in question, the San Francisco team will have to turn a lot of pages before reaching one final point.
