Lakers View Draymond Green As ‘Dream’ Offseason Target
Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

Even with the Los Angeles Lakers currently in the middle of a big playoff series against the Memphis Grizzlies, it’s never too early to begin planning for the offseason. LeBron James and company were able to take Game 1 against Memphis, but there is no doubt that they will need to improve their roster in the offseason. One name to keep an eye on could be Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green.

Over the last year or so, Green has been very open about his admiration for James. He has not been quiet about the clear idea that playing with LeBron would be of interest.

Now, it appears that the Lakers feel the exact same way.

According to one source, the Lakers view Green as a “dream offseason target.” Green could end up hitting the open free agency market this offseason. He has a player option and could opt to test the market.

If he does end up becoming available, the Lakers are going to be on the long list of teams interested in him. They believe that Green would be the piece they have been missing on the defensive end of the floor. His leadership is also said to be something that Los Angeles would love to add to the roster.

During the 2022-23 regular season with the Warriors, Green put up familiar numbers. He averaged 8.5 points per game to go along with 7.2 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.8 blocks. Green shot 52.7 percent from the floor and knocked down 30.5 percent of his three-point attempts.

At 33 years of age, Green is likely looking at the last big contract he will sign in the NBA. He could decide to stick it out with the Warriors, but starting a new chapter with LeBron and the Lakers would have to be intriguing at the very least.

Expect to continue hearing rumors about the Lakers and Draymond Green as the offseason draws closer. Whether or not he will opt out of his current deal remains to be seen, but L.A. would love the chance to pursue him if he does.
