Mavericks, Heat reportedly interested in Victor Oladipo
Will the Heat re-sign Victor Oladipo, or will he sign elsewhere? Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

Victor Oladipo had an eventful 2020-21 season. The 29-year-old played for three separate franchises this past season: the Indiana Pacers, Houston Rockets and Miami Heat.

When the Pacers initially traded Oladipo to Houston, there was chatter of it perhaps being a permanent home for him, but the optimism there quickly dissipated. From the way Oladipo spoke about the Rockets, it quickly became evident that he had no plans of staying there for long. The lack of interest soon became mutual.

Surely enough, at the trade deadline Oladipo was moved to the Heat for Avery Bradley, Kelly Olynyk and a 2022 draft-pick swap. Four games in, Oladipo underwent season-ending surgery on his right quadriceps tendon.

Seeing as Oladipo is now an unrestricted free agent, many are wondering what ultimately lays ahead for him.

According to NBA insider Evan Massey, the Heat and Dallas Mavericks have very real interest in adding Oladipo to their rosters.

“According to a source who spoke to NBA Analysis Network, both the Heat and Mavs have interest in signing Oladipo for the right price this offseason,” he wrote.

In 2020-21 Oladipo averaged 19.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Although his production was solid and he showed flashes of the talent he possesses, he has yet to return to being the incredible All-NBA two-way threat he was just a few years ago. At this point, he is a gamble.

The Mavericks are rumored to be in the running for a blockbuster trade. If it doesn’t ultimately materialize, it wouldn’t be all that shocking to see them settle for Oladipo.

Similarly, the Heat are in talks to acquire a superstar. But if that doesn’t work out, Oladipo could provide them with a nice little boost.

Where will Oladipo ultimately play come next season? Time will tell.
