NBA superstar Paul George recently linked up with one of the world's most famous streamers (IShowSpeed), and it led to a moment of awkwardness that fans won't soon forget. As the two were exchanging pleasantries and hanging out in the Philadelphia area, Speed hilariously asked what he was doing in the city before George reminded him in disbelief.
IShowSpeed: "So, you from Philly?”
Paul George: “Hell nah...”
Speed: “What are you in Philly for?”
Paul George: “I play here.”
IShowSpeed: "That's right, that's right. I thought you were from Philly! I thought you got history in Philly. Because you look like somebody who plays for Philly."
Speed: “You from Philly?”

Over the years, NBA athletes have been getting increasingly more involved with streaming. While some players have become streamers (like Kyrie Irving), even more have forged relationships with them through on-stream appearances and collaborations. It was announced yesterday that even LeBron James is set to join the trend by setting plans to go live with Kai Cenat.
In the case of Paul George, he likely didn't hesitate to ride with IShowSpeed, but he probably didn't expect the streamer to forget what team he played for. The disappointment in his voice was clear as he reminded Speed, and things got awkward after that. In the comments, fans reacted as you'd expect: with a mix of humor and criticism toward the 76ers star.
"'I play here' is an exaggeration," read the top response, outlining George's struggles on the franchise.
It's no secret that George has struggled with the 76ers, as he appeared in just 41 games for them last season and posted his lowest numbers since 2014-15 (16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game).
"Won’t be there much longer playing like this," wrote a parody account on X.
The 76ers didn't even make the playoffs last season, and it's a fact that isn't lost on any Sixers fans.
"Him and Speed have the same number of playoff points as a Sixer," one fan stated in a brutal response.
While Speed's basketball knowledge may be in doubt after this clip, one fan came to his defense by saying it's perfectly understandable to forget he plays for Philadelphia.
"I mean to be fair, PG was in Cali for like 5 years and only went to Philly last season and barely played. It's not super unreasonable that it could slip someone's mind he's on that team now," wrote a fan.
In perhaps the most outraged reply, an angry 76ers fan called out George for daring to show his face in public after such an anemic tenure in Philly so far.
"After a year you just had. You are going on a stream with Speed. I’m not saying he needs to be working all the time, but the dude got injured from a workout, and I haven’t seen him involved with the team once this summer. PG, you are a loser and nothing less," the fan wrote.
Players usually have nothing to lose by making surprise stream appearances, but that wasn't the case for George. For a city and fanbase that's frustrated with their struggles, they are looking for any excuse to express their displeasure to anyone who will listen.
Today, that happened to be the entirety of the NBA community. While George has an accomplished career as a nine-time All-Star and six-time All-NBA player, his fall from grace has been steep and swift. If he wants to earn back the favor of fans, he'll need to step it up next season and lift the 76ers above a 13th-place finish in the Eastern Conference standings.
