Reggie Miller kept on messing up Victor Wembanyama’s name in Game 1

Victor Wembanyama got Reggie Miller’d during his NBA playoff debut on Sunday.

The Basketball Hall of Famer Miller was on the call for Sunday’s first-round series opener between the San Antonio Spurs and the Portland Trail Blazers. Miller was doing color commentary for NBC during the game at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.

But viewers quickly got annoyed by how Miller repeatedly messed up Wembanyama’s name. Miller kept on referring to the seven-footer as “Wembanyana” instead (with an “n” sound in place of the second “m”).

Many fans took to social media to express frustration about Miller’s mispronunications.

This has apparently been a recurring theme for Miller over the years. Even back in 2023, the year Wembanyama that made his NBA debut, fans were already complaining online about Miller getting his name wrong.

The 22-year-old Wembanyama is in the NBA playoffs for the very first time after leading the Spurs to a torrid 62-win regular season. But even so, Miller somehow still cannot figure out how to properly say his name (bringing to mind the way that Candace Parker kept messing up a player’s name during the NBA play-in tournament last week).
