Things are going fairly well for Warriors star Stephen Curry these days. Sure, he will turn 37 years old this week and is clearly on the back end of his NBA career, but he is also managing to average 32.2 points and 6.2 assists per game, while shooting 39.7% from the 3-point line.
And things are going quite nicely for his team, too. With the weekend's grinding win over the Pistons to kick off a homestand in San Francisco, the Warriors have kept alive the team's recent hot streak, which has dropped them into the thick of the West playoff race.
The Warriors were 25-26 on Feb. 7, but have gone 11-2 since then. Beating Detroit was especially difficult, as the Warriors shot just 41.7% from the field and 29.3% from the 3-point line. Curry had 32 points on Saturday, despite going just 8-for-22 from the field and 4-for-15 from the 3-point line.
In doing so, he became just the 10th player in league history to score 25,000 points with one franchise.
But in addition to his NBA exploits, Curry is casting an eye back to where things started--Davidson, the small North Carolina school where he first made his name nearly two decades ago as an NCAA Tournament star.
As ESPN's Shams Charania reports, "Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has accepted a role with his alma mater Davidson College as an assistant general manager for the basketball programs, university officials told ESPN.
"Curry becomes the first active player in U.S. major professional sports to take an administrative job with an NCAA team."
Exactly how the Warriors and the Wildcats will divvy up Curry's time will be worked out in due course.
There will be a financial commitment, Charania wrote: "Curry, his wife Ayesha Curry and longtime Davidson College supporters Don, Matt and Erica Berman will also start an eight-figure fund for both the men and women's programs."
But for now, Curry is chipping in with his alma mater, which is 16-15 this season and has struggled badly (6-12) in the Atlantic 10.
