The Golden State Warriors saw their season come to an end, but Draymond Green’s remarks about Kevin Durant quickly became a central storyline. As the 2026 playoff picture took shape, attention shifted to Durant’s 2025 offseason departure from the Phoenix Suns and the team’s return to the postseason the following season without him.

The veteran forward addressed the media following the Warriors’ 111–96 loss to the Suns on Friday night, a defeat that officially ended their season. Phoenix secured the eighth and final playoff seed behind a dominant performance from guard Jalen Green, who scored 36 points and knocked down eight three-pointers on 14 attempts as the Suns controlled the game from start to finish.

While the result sparked questions about Golden State’s future, it also reignited discussion around Durant. The former Suns star has faced criticism amid narratives tying Phoenix’s immediate playoff return to his departure.

The moment gained traction after a clip of Green’s postgame remarks, shared by the popular Oh No He Didn’t meme account on X, formerly Twitter, circulated widely and captured his emphatic defense of KD.

“Let’s not put this all on Kevin like Kevin’s not great, because Kevin is great, and there will be no Kevin slander on my watch. Kevin’s team wasn’t fighting to get in. Kevin is doing just fine, and they’re doing just fine. When you look at the situation, it benefited both teams for Kevin to leave. It benefited Houston, and it benefited the Suns.”

The 2017 NBA Defensive Player of the Year pushed back on the idea that Durant’s exit was a case of addition by subtraction, emphasizing that the move ultimately worked for all sides. He pointed to Houston’s success and the Suns’ return to the playoffs as evidence that both teams are thriving.

The loss also featured late-game tension, as Green and Devin Booker were ejected following a heated exchange. Still, the four-time NBA champion remained focused on defending Durant rather than assigning blame.

As the playoffs begin, Green’s comments reshape the narrative.
