Things always get weird during an NFL season. If someone had told you that the Washington Commanders would go from a laughingstock to the NFC Championship game in the first year under head coach Dan Quinn, they'd have been laughed out of the building.
But it happened. Anything and everything could happen on any given Sunday. Expectations might be higher for the Commanders this time around, but there are guaranteed to be some expected occurrences throughout what promises to be another fascinating campaign.
With this in mind, here are three weird Commanders predictions for the 2025 season, starting with instant vindication for one of the team's most contentious free-agent signings.
The Commanders received their fair share of criticism for signing Javon Kinlaw to a three-year, $45 million deal that included $30 million guaranteed. Not many thought the imposing defensive lineman did enough to warrant this financial commitment, but Adam Peters is confident he can get some bang for his buck.
Kinlaw's left a positive impression this offseason. He's been lining up on the interior and as a defensive end in NASCAR packages. It's a long shot, but perhaps this could see the former first-round pick lead the team in sacks.
Kliff Kingsbury restored his reputation last season by leading a high-octane offense to great things throughout the campaign. Fans are expecting something similar this time around, especially considering the concerted effort to build around quarterback Jayden Daniels this offseason.
If everything clicks, and it's a big if, the Commanders could lead the league in touchdowns.
After getting some increasing ridicule throughout the offseason, Deebo Samuel Sr. is ready to let his football do the talking. And the signs suggest that Washington might have a steal on its hands with the wide receiver.
Samuel heard the scathing remarks from analysts and former pros. He came into the Commanders ready to work, in shape, and firmly focused on the task at hand. And with Terry McLaurin now signed to a lucrative contract extension following a long standoff that threatened to get bitter, that's only going to help the South Carolina product return to his old self.
If Samuel can earn All-Pro honors, whether that's first or second team, this trade to bring him on board was worth its weight in gold.
