Aaron Rodgers fends off the narrative surrounding his name following a decision from the rest of his Steelers teammates

The 2025 season is finally here. Nothing signified that more than the Pittsburgh Steelers returning to practice on Monday ahead of their Week 1 game against the New York Jets.

However, among their preparations, they signed Jaylen Warren to a new deal, and the team announced their captains for the 2025 season.

One of those players was quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Steelers announce 2025 team captains

"Steelers' players voted, and this year's team captains are quarterback Aaron Rodgers on offense, defensive tackle Cameron Heyward and linebacker T.J. Watt on defense and safety Miles Killebrew on special teams. . .

" . ..Rodgers, who was signed this offseason, is obviously a Steelers captain for the first time, but it's not the first time in that role. This is the 15th time in his career Rodgers has been selected as a team captain. He was a team captain 12 of his 18 years in Green Bay and the last two years with the New York Jets."

The narrative around Aaron Rodgers late in his career has been that he's all about himself. That he's more concerned with celebrity jeopardy, walks on the beach, or appearances on The Pat McAfee Show than he is playing football.

Yet when asking anyone who has played with him, they love him. And while it's still the honeymoon stage of his relationship with the Pittsburgh Steelers, his coaches, and teammates have raved about the person as much as the quarterback.

“He gets on everybody,” Steelers rookie QB Will Howard told The Pat McAfee Show about Rodgers’ leadership on Friday. “He expects excellence, and he’s demanding. He’s a great leader. It’s been great to just sit back and watch the way that he operates. I’ve been learning from it and trying to pick his brain as much as I can.”

That old saying: "don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you read," that certainly applies to Aaron Rodgers, and being voted team captain by his Steelers teammates only solidifies it.

As for your other captains, there is no doubt that Watt, Heyward, and Killebrew would round out that bunch. Heyward's nickname is literally "Captain Cam," Watt is the best player on the team, and Killebrew is a special teams ace.

A pretty sturdy group of leaders headed into 2025.
