The Chicago Bears are currently in the final stages of training camp as they gear up for their preseason finale against the Tennessee Titans. The Bears have already dealt with some injury concerns throughout camp, and on Thursday, the team got another tough update on that front.
“Jaylon Johnson is taking himself out of practice. Looks like he hurt his right arm on a run play in 11 on 11s. He’s being evaluated on the sideline,” reported Nicholas Moreano of Bears Roundtable on X, formerly Twitter.
Johnson is a key member of the Bears’ defensive backfield, which was an up and down unit last year under first-year head coach Ben Johnson.
Moreano did note that “Maybe a positive, but Jaylon Johnson is still out here, standing next to Al Harris.”
It’s unclear exactly what occurred on the run play that caused Johnson to go down with the injury, and just how serious the ailment might be. The incident occurred during a joint practice with the Tennessee Titans as the two teams prepare for their upcoming preseason game against one another this weekend.
Losing Johnson for any significant amount of time for a second straight year, after he missed several games with an adductor tear last season, would certainly be a tough blow for the Bears to stomach as they look to build off the success of last season.
In any case, Chicago is slated to kick off its regular season on September 13 with a road game against the Carolina Panthers at 1:00 pm ET.
