Bills have huge concern before facing Justin Fields, Jets

The Buffalo Bills completed an exciting 22-point fourth-quarter comeback to knock off the Baltimore Ravens by one point in Week 1, but the defense surrendered a whopping 40 points in the season opener.

Ravens star running back Derrick Henry rushed for 169 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. Quarterback Lamar Jackson added 70 yards on the ground and a touchdown as Baltimore rushed for 238 total yards.

Per Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN, the Bills are concerned with their running defense before they play a New York Jets backfield with quarterback Justin Fields and running back Breece Hall.

"An issue for Buffalo in Week 1 was limiting the running game after giving up a league-high 238 rushing yards," Getzenberg wrote. "The Jets put up the fourth-most rushing yards in Week 1 (182 yards) and slowing them down will be more difficult with DT Ed Oliver, who is coming off a big game, dealing with an ankle injury."

The Buffalo Bills need to contain Justin Fields

Fields rushed for 48 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries in the Jets' 34-32 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Hall carried the ball 19 times for 107 yards. Those two could give a reeling Bills front seven (without a healthy Oliver) fits on Sunday.

Buffalo defensive coordinator Bobby Babich told reporters this week that stopping the run was an emphasis at practice this week.

"We need to get those things corrected, and we will," Babich said, per Getzenberg. "We'll be very intentional this week about getting those things."

If Buffalo can stop the run and keep Fields in the pocket, the Jets offense could have trouble. But that's easier said than done.
