The Buffalo Bills struck gold when they drafted Josh Allen, even if it may not have seemed so at the time. After a heated battle, Allen was awarded league MVP in a moment the Bills Mafia won't soon forget. That's not all, though. The NFL has officially announced that multiple players are going to be given a gold shield uniform patch heading into the 2025 NFL season. Allen is one of those beneficiaries, and his jersey will include the flashy new patch. Remember when everyone said he was overrated? Allen is in a league of his own in that he'll always be remembered as the first NFL MVP to have the new patch added to his jersey. A nice little touch for a historic moment.
Some news — NFL MVP and Players of the Year will wear Gold Shield patches on their jerseys this season instead of traditional NFL logo

Players with the patch: MVP Josh Allen, OPOY Saquon Barkley, DPOY Pat Surtain II, OROY Jayden Daniels, DROY Jared Verse https://t.co/DYbF0dVuQs
Alaina Getzenberg, an ESPN reporter for the Buffalo Bills, broke the news that immediately took over the internet. Allen won't be alone, as the patches have also been given to the Offensive Player of the Year (Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley), Defensive Player of the Year (Denver Broncos CB Patrick Surtain II), Offensive Rookie of the Year (Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels), and Defensive Rookie of the Year (Los Angeles Rams LB Jared Verse). Getzenberg explained the initiative in her article with ESPN.
"For the first time, the NFL will further recognize the achievements of some of football's top performers from the previous season. Winners of five Associated Press awards from 2024 will wear a gold shield patch inspired by the NFL Honors logo in place of the traditional NFL shield patch on the collar of the players' game jerseys," Getzenberg wrote in ESPN.
She noted that the trend is expected to continue during future NFL seasons, a nice little touch for some of the best in the game.
On top of the hardware, Allen has another nice touch to symbolize his historic season. In his MVP campaign, Josh Allen finished the season with 3,731 passing yards, 28 passing touchdowns, with only eight turnovers, while also adding 531 yards on the ground and 12 touchdowns as a runner. Perhaps the greatest play, though, was his lone receiving touchdown that we still can't believe happened.

While the gold patch is exciting, Buffalo has their eyes set on a different kind of shiny prize: the Lombardi Trophy. After some big-name acquisitions in the offseason, on top of Allen's ascension to one of the very best across the entire league, the Bills are hoping to climb the mountain and bring the city's first-ever Super Bowl trophy to Western New York.
For now, we'll just gush at how awesome Allen is going to look with his new bling.
