Bucs Waive ILB
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

The Bucs announced on Tuesday that they have waived rookie inside linebacker Olakunle Fatukasi from the roster. Fatukasi was an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers that won a spot on the 53-man roster out of training camp when he was in competition for one of the last linebacker positions.

Fatukasi played in all 13 games for Tampa Bay this season on special teams. In 150 snaps, he made six tackles, including a career best three in the Bucs’ 21-16 win over the Seahawks in Munich, Germany. He played one snap on defense in a 17-16 win against the Saints on Monday night football, briefly replacing Lavonte David for a play.

Bucs’ ILB Outlook

With K.J. Britt returning from injure reserve this week, Fatukasi became more expendable as they both play on special teams. The Bucs are choosing to go with three inside linebackers on the roster with David, Devin White and Britt. They also have J.J. Russell on the practice squad available if the want to call up an extra linebacker on game day. Russell was the one in competition with Fatukasi during training camp. He’s played in three games this season in Weeks 8 through 10.

Tampa Bay has an open spot on the 53-man roster. No corresponding move has been made at the moment.
