Chiefs Coach Andy Reid Provides Much-Needed Update on Hollywood Brown

The Kansas City Chiefs are entering the 2025 season with hopes of bringing the franchise its fifth Super Bowl win.

However, before their Week 1 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, they'd already dealt with several injuries, including to wide receiver Hollywood Brown.

After being carted off the field during practice on July 29 due to an ankle injury, his availability during training camp was limited and he didn't appear in any preseason matchups.

Andy Reid Offers Hollywood Brown Update

It called into question whether or not he would be available for the season opener, just days away, scheduled to be played on Friday in São Paulo, Brazil

Luckily, though, on Sunday, head coach Andy Reid gave a positive update, saying Brown "should be fine," according to the Chiefs' senior reporter Matt McMullen.

That's big news for the Chiefs' offense, which last season performed in the middle of the pack, ranking 17th in total yards per game (327.6) and 15th in points per game (22.6).

Hollywood Brown to Have a Big Role for the Chiefs' Offense Early On

Kansas City will be without third-year wide receiver Rashee Rice for the first six weeks of the season after being suspended for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.

To make matters worse, rookie fourth-round pick Jalen Royals' Week 1 availability is in question, with Reid telling reporters it would be a "real rush" to have him back so early while he deals with a knee injury.

That leaves Brown as one of quarterback Patrick Mahomes' top targets going into the season, in an offense that's known for pass-heavy tendencies.

Mahomes has previously praised Brown's ability to make an impact, telling ESPN's Adam Teicher, "I think you can see when he gets the football in his hands and he has a huge role in our offense, it makes everybody go."

Despite being with them in 2024, this will also be his real chance with the Chiefs, appearing in just two games last season, hauling in nine receptions for 91 yards after suffering a preseason shoulder injury.

If he can be the same player who, in 2021, for the Baltimore Ravens brought in 91 receptions for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns, the Chiefs will have a real offensive threat for Mahomes.
