The NFL locker room can get just as competitive about college football as Saturdays on campus, and Bryan Bresee just found that out the hard way.
The former Clemson star was spotted walking around the New Orleans Saints locker room in an LSU hoodie after his Tigers dropped their season opener to LSU, 17-10, in Clemson’s Death Valley.

Bresee, once the nation’s No. 1 recruit and a freshman All-American in 2020, had put a friendly wager on the game with teammate Davon Godchaux, a former LSU standout. The loser had to wear the other’s colors, and Bresee paid the price.
At Clemson, Bresee left behind a decorated career that saw him rack up 64 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, nine sacks, four pass breakups, an interception, a forced fumble and even a safety in 26 games.
He also helped on offense in the Tigers jumbo package and was named the ACC’s Defensive Rookie of the Year, joining Dexter Lawrence as just the second Clemson player to earn the honor.
Before kickoff, Bresee had no doubts about where his loyalty stood. “I heard we were the first ones to claim [Death Valley], but I just think it’s special because of the fans that are in Clemson. It’s a great fan base, people who love Clemson, love everything about it, and fully support our football team,” he told Richie Mills, sports reporter and anchor at WGNO.
“They show out in flying colors. So it’ll be a crazy game for sure.”
Instead, it was LSU fans celebrating a hard-fought road win, and Godchaux who got the bragging rights. For now, Bresee’s orange and purple gear is on hold while the Saints’ locker room tilts toward purple and gold.
But don’t expect the Clemson product to stay quiet for long. He already hinted that another bet could be on the horizon: “Yeah, he’s going to be in some Clemson gear next week after we win. We’ll have some gear maybe getting passed around a little bit next week. We’ll see. We’ll see.”
College football season is back—and the rivalries stretch well beyond campus.
