Caleb Williams is emerging as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL today. Last season, he threw for a career-high 3,942 yards, good for the seventh-most in the league. The 6-foot-1 quarterback finished the season with 27 touchdowns and only 24 sacks, down from 68 last year.
The first overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft helped the Chicago Bears to their best season since 2018. Williams led his squad to an 11-6 record, en route to the NFC North Division title.
Chicago defeated their rivals, the Green Bay Packers, in the 2025 Wild Card Round, 31-27. Unfortunately, they bowed out to the Super Bowl LVI champions, the Los Angeles Rams, in the Divisional Round.
Despite the loss, Williams still cemented himself as one of the up-and-coming superstar in the NFL. In just two years, the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner has already firmly established himself as the Bears’ offensive cornerstone.
The 24-year-old has drawn comparisons to one of the most dynamic guards in NBA history, Dwyane Wade, who also happens to be a Chicago legend.
When asked who Caleb Williams’ basketball player comparison is, ex-NBA star and Bears die-hard fan Quentin Richardson easily answered: “I’mma go D-Wade.”
The former NBA guard then proceeded to explain why he compared Williams to Wade.
“Because when he gets to that clutch time, D-Wade was a bad boy,” Richardson said. “He ain’t flinch.”
Wade’s clutch moments were the major point of comparison between the two stars.
“Remember the clutch playoffs where he bumped and game-winnered Baron Davis?” he asked. “That’s similar to Caleb Williams in his second year with all the down-the-stretch clutch moments and plays that he did, and he ain’t blinking.”
Richardson then gave some love to the young Chicago star.
“That’s why they call him the Iceman, and we thankful to have him,” Richardson mentioned. “That’s our best quarterback ever already.”

The Wade-Williams comparison has legs, as both stars immediately electrified their respective leagues after being drafted.
It is worth noting that Wade led the Miami Heat to an NBA championship in just his third season. If the comparison rings true, Williams’ third season with the Bears could be historic.
