The Jacksonville Jaguars have revealed that Travis Hunter will continue to play on both sides of the ball.
Hunter, the No. 2 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, played at both wide receiver and cornerback at Colorado.
Former head coach Deion Sanders allowed him to dominate both on offense and defense, which enhanced his reputation as a two-way star.
While there were doubts that such exertion would be sustainable in the NFL, the Jaguars also gave their rookie snaps on both sides of the ball. Unfortunately, he suffered a season-ending knee injury in October.
The former Colorado standout marked a new chapter ahead of his rookie season, getting baptized, revamping his look, and tying the knot, perhaps in an effort to signal a personal and professional evolution.
However, he found himself sidelined midway through the term.
Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said shortly after the injury that it was too early to tell whether Hunter would continue to play at both receiver and cornerback in 2026. But, with the season now over, general manager James Gladstone has suggested that will be the case.
Gladstone noted that Hunter’s rehabilitation is going according to plan before revealing the player would still be expected to function in dual roles.
“Beyond that, in the role that he’ll play, we still expect him to play on both sides of the ball,” he said.“Obviously, you can take a peek at expiring contracts on our roster and which side of the ball has more.”
Gladstone also explained that expected outgoings have pushed the team in that direction
“Obviously at this point, walking into the offseason, corner is a position where we have a few guys who are on expiring contracts. So, by default, you can expect there to be a higher emphasis on his placement.”
Hunter played 324 snaps on offense and 162 on defense in seven appearances last season. He registered 28 catches for 298 yards and one touchdown as a receiver and 15 tackles as a defensive back.
