Rumors were circulating on social media that Jerry Jones was ready to step down as the Dallas Cowboys’ general manager. Stephen Jones‘ name was thrown in the hat as the next head of the organization.

Jones, 82, took charge of the Cowboys in 1989 to save the struggling Dallas team from financial ruin. Under his ownership, the Cowboys won three Super Bowls and emerged as ‘America’s Team.’

Ironically, the 1996 NFC title win against the Green Bay Packers was the last time the Cowboys tasted conference silverware. They failed to reach the same stage on seven different occasions.

Jones paid his important players, Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Zack Martin, albeit at the very last moment, to see his team challenge for a sixth ring. They finished 7-10 and sacked the entire coaching staff.

It was Micah Parsons’ turn to make his demand, but Jones refused to budge, and the conclusion came in the form of a trade. Naturally, Cowboys fans turned volatile and demanded that Jones step down from his post as the GM.

Even in his twilight years, Jones isn’t ready to step down. In the recent Netflix documentary on the Cowboys, Jones considered himself a gambler because he purchased a dying organization and turned it into the most profitable sports venture on the planet.

He has no intention of impeaching his throne despite winning just five playoff games since the last ring. Jones enjoys “the pain.”

At this point, most Cowboys fans would not mind seeing the back of Jones. He has worked day in and day out to increase the star’s value, and it’s better to bow out while the fanbase still has a moniker of respect for him.

Jones isn’t worried about the smoke.

I don’t apologize at all for the fact that I’ve got the passion to be in the spot I’m in, or I have the background, or I have the qualifications. I don’t apologize about that at all to my mirror.

In short, it’s more than likely that the Cowboys will continue to see Jerry around until the end.

The Cowboys are preparing to face the defending world champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, in week one. They must devise a plan to contain the Eagles’ offense, especially the NFL’s number one athlete and reigning Offensive Player of the Year, Saquon Barkley.

Parsons was the heart and soul of the Cowboys’ defense. His departure has generated ample heat and a sense of unwanted tension. Former Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis, who left Dallas to sign for the Jacksonville Jaguars, said,

It’s Jerry’s World, man. It is definitely a surprise. Micah, I thought he was going to be a staple for a long time, but I feel like feelings get sour and things went south. So it’s the NFL. Anything can happen.

Jones admitted that Parsons was among the stars on the team but defended his decision to trade him away. This was required to improve the defense’s ability to stop the opposition’s run play. Kenny Clark , whom the Cowboys acquired in the trade, will play a key role in the run game.

Micah’s a wonderful football player. We think this gives us a better chance to stop the run. Other teams knew that, and they threw the ball out quickly, and they ran against us when we had Micah, and they’re really emphasizing pass rush.

Jerry Jones said

A Parsons-less Cowboys only has a 22% winning probability to start the season with a win. It will take a defensive masterclass from DaRon Bland, Trevon Diggs , and Osa Odighizuwa to give the Cowboys a fighting chance.
