The Miami Dolphins coaching staff is dealing with some seriously unwanted drama after Outside Linebackers Coach Ryan Crow found himself on the wrong side of the law early Friday morning. What are the specifics of this incident?
At 12:10 a.m. on Friday, Fort Lauderdale police responded to what they’re calling a “domestic disturbance” near South Federal Highway. According to the arrest report, he allegedly got into a heated argument with someone about past relationships.
But here’s where things went from bad to worse: witnesses told police they saw the 37-year-old coach physically restraining the victim, attempting what looked like a takedown move. One witness described seeing Crow with his arms around the victim “as if attempting a takedown, lifting her legs off the ground.” Another witness reported seeing him slap and grapple with the victim before noticing bystanders and backing off.
The team did not waste time addressing this mess. They immediately placed Crow on administrative leave and released a statement that was about as enthusiastic as a punt on third down:
“We are aware of the serious matter involving Ryan Crow and currently gathering more information. Ryan has been placed on administrative leave effective immediately. We have been in communication with the NFL and will reserve further comment at this time.”
Crow came to Miami in 2024 after spending three seasons coaching outside linebackers for the Tennessee Titans. He has been in the NFL coaching ranks since 2018, which makes this situation even more disappointing. You would think someone who’s spent that much time around professional athletes would understand the importance of keeping personal issues from exploding in public.
As of Friday morning, Crow was sitting in Broward County’s main jail with no bond set, charged with misdemeanor domestic battery. The victim reportedly suffered no serious injuries and declined medical attention, but that doesn’t make this situation any less serious.
This arrest comes at an absolutely terrible time for the Dolphins, who are trying to focus on the upcoming season. The last thing any NFL team needs is a coaching staff making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Head Coach Mike McDaniel and the organization now have to deal with finding a replacement for Crow while also managing the inevitable media circus.
For a team that’s been working hard to establish a winning culture, having a coach arrested on domestic battery charges is like fumbling on the goal line. The NFL has been contacted about the situation, which means this story is far from over. The league takes these matters seriously, and the coach’s future in professional football is now hanging in the balance.
