NFC West news: DK Metcalf departs the conference

Shortly after news broke that wide receiver Davante Adams was leaving the AFC for the NFC, joining the Los Angeles Rams, another star wideout, DK Metcalf , is making the reverse move from the NFC to the AFC. NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero have reported that the Seattle Seahawks are trading Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Last week, it was revealed that Metcalf had requested a trade, hoping to join a contender. Pelissero adds that the Steelers are signing Metcalf to a four-year, $132 million extension.

Over his six seasons since being drafted by the Seahawks in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Metcalf has racked up 6,324 receiving yards and 48 touchdowns. He has also logged 750 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 12 regular-season games against the San Francisco 49ers.

Last year, the Steelers were reportedly interested in acquiring disgruntled wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk before the 49ers locked him down with a massive contract extension—a deal they reportedly regret. Pittsburgh has also shown interest in Deebo Samuel, but with the 49ers recently agreeing to trade him to the Washington Commanders, they have finally landed a top-tier wideout in Metcalf.

San Francisco cornerback Deommodore Lenoir expressed his disappointment upon hearing that Metcalf might be leaving the NFC West.

"Y'all cannot let DK leave," Lenoir said on Instagram Live. "Y'all can't do that. Like, how am I gonna have fun out there?"

Lenoir added, "It low-key had me mad when I just got that text in the morning, he about to leave Seattle. That just got me. It got me hot."
