NFL Writer Makes Incredibly Bold Super Bowl Prediction

Could the New York Jets and Detroit Lions end up meeting in what would be a very intriguing Super Bowl next February?

Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport thinks it’s a possibility.

In a piece where Davenport lists his bold predictions for the 2024 NFL season, he prognosticates that the Jets and Lions will clash in Super Bowl 59.

How many people have that matchup written down?

While it’s certainly different, it’s actually not out of the realm of possibility.

Let’s not forget that Detroit came this close to making it to the Super Bowl this past winter. The Lions held a 24-7 halftime lead over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game, only to see the 49ers roar back for the win.

Had Jared Goff and Co. even played passable football in the second half, it would have been them facing down Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

The Lions went 12-5 and won the NFC North last season, and they look very formidable heading into 2024. So, it’s entirely possible that they could represent their conference in New Orleans next yar.

As for the Jets? Well, they certainly have an impressive roster.

New York was expected to be a championship contender last year, but Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles in Week 1, putting those dreams on ice.

However, Rodgers is on the mend and should absolutely be ready for the 2024 season opener. The Jets have added some pieces for him this offseason, bringing in some more receivers and bolstering their offensive line. They also buttressed their defense by trading for star pass rusher Haason Reddick.

Obviously, Gang Green will have to get past the Chiefs and squads like the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals and Houston Texans in the AFC, but if Rodgers can recapture his Green Bay Packers form, anything is possible for this Jets squad.

It’s also important to note that New York is playing in a very winnable AFC East division, as the Buffalo Bills were severely weakened by multiple departures this offseason. The Miami Dolphins are good, but certainly not unbeatable. The New England Patriots? Their reign of terror is long over.

It would definitely be nice to get some new blood in the Super Bowl. The Jets and Lions would be just that.

We’ll see if New York and Detroit can fight their way to the big game by next winter.
