While college football's Week 1 has been the biggest sports talking point over the past week, it is now time to turn attention to NFL Week 1.
The slate opens with NFC East rivals as the Dallas Cowboys will take on the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, and will see AFC West rivals Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers face off in Brazil on Friday.
With what was an eventful preseason across the league, one of the more intriguing storylines was the play of former No. 1 overall recruit and Texas Longhorns star, Quinn Ewers. After a rocky preseason debut that saw him complete just 5-of-18 passes for 91 yards, and lose two fumbles, Ewers bounced back in a big way.
Not only was he turning heads in practices, but over the next two games, he completed 18-of-25 passes (72%) for 182 yards and two touchdowns. The strong surge from the seventh-round pick led many to believe he'd surpass Zach Wilson on the depth chart to serve as the backup to Tua Tagovailoa, but with the Dolphins announcing their depth chart on Monday, that proved not to be the case.

A caveat here in that the team doesn’t list a starting nickel. I would expect rookie Jason Marshall to do a lot of that despite his third-team listing. Many others kept in the order they were when roster was at 90. pic.twitter.com/GBkXf63CBH
As the team now gears up to take on the Indianapolis Colts to open the season, Ewers is listed as the third quarterback on the depth chart behind Wilson and Tagovailoa.
While this isn't an indictment on Ewers, it simply means that head coach Mike McDaniel didn't see enough from him, or trusts Wilson more if he is needed to play at this time.
Whether it be Ewers or Wilson, they each need to be ready to step up, as it's no secret that Tagovailoa has an injury history.
Tagovailoa has played 17 games just once in his career, and has a laundry list of injuries that he's been dealing with such as multiple concussions, multiple hip injuries and a few other sprains along the way.
While Ewers has plenty of potential, it appears he'll simply have to wait his turn.
