Seahawks Interested In Jadeveon Clowney

Not long after Clowney’s Browns visit, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported an NFC West team was also eyeing a deal. On Thursday, Schultz clarified that team is the Seahawks. Seattle would also represent a familiar landing spot in this case.

Following the five-year Texans stint which began his NFL career, Clowney played for the Seahawks in 2019. The former No. 1 pick has since bounced around the league, seeing time with five teams across the past six seasons. During his one-and-done campaign in the Emerald City, Clowney started 11 of his 13 appearances and remained a strong presence against the run but managed only three sacks.

More recently, the South Carolina product has seen upticks in his pass rush production. That includes a nine-sack showing during his debut Browns campaign and 8.5 registered last season with the Cowboys. Clowney would be expected to handle a rotational role in Seattle if he were to join the defending Super Bowl champions, a team which still has DeMarcus Lawrence, Uchenna Nwosu and Derick Hall in the fold. The Seahawks lost Boye Mafe in free agency, although Dante Fowler was added on the open market.

The Seahawks currently have over $25MM in cap space. The team hosted safety Donovan Wilson on a workout yesterday, so a signing could be forthcoming on that front. Even so, a Wilson deal would not remove the possibility of other summer veteran additions. Clowney has a well-earned reputation for taking short-term deals and remaining patient in free agency, but he could offer value to Seattle in 2026.

It was reported earlier this month that four teams were eyeing a deal with Clowney. The Browns and Seahawks clearly comprise half of that list, but it will be interesting to see if clarity on his other suitors emerges before a final decision is made.
