Should Eagles Trade QB McKee to the Giants?

The division rival New York Giants just saw their starting quarterback Jaxson Dart suffer a season ending knee injury on Monday Night Football. Would the Eagles be willing to throw an arch nemesis a lifeline for the right price?

New York’s backup quarterback Jameis Winston came in to relieve the injured Dart against the Los Angeles Rams and completed a dreadful 11-of-27 passes for 111 yards with one interception. Beyond the bad numbers, Winston threw balls over the head of his receivers, into the turf several yards short of his receivers, and one completed pass to the wrong team.

Based on that performance, the 32-year-old former Heisman Trophy winner has no business playing professional football ever again. If you ask me, the only way Winston should be allowed to enter an NFL stadium again is if he has a ticket like the rest of the fans in the building.

If New York decides to roll the dice with Winston as the starter for the remainder of the season, the Giants are all but a mortal lock for a last place finish in the NFC East. That being the case, this could be a golden opportunity for the Eagles to poach some extremely lucrative draft capital from New York in exchange for a player they do not necessarily need right now. That is, if the Giants have any interest in saving their season.

The recent excellent play of starting signal caller Jalen Hurts also makes McKee expendable. If the trade actually happened, it would not be the first time a division foe has brokered a deal with Philadelphia this past calendar year. During the 2026 NFL Draft, the Eagles made a trade with the Dallas Cowboys to swoop in one pick ahead of the Pittsburgh Steelers and selected USC wide receiver Makai Lemon as the Steelers were actually on the phone with Lemon.

It is likely the Eagles would want no less than a second-round draft choice for McKee. The Giants would also be importing a quarterback controversy for next year and beyond if they decided to bring in McKee. Backup options like Jimmy Garoppolo of the Rams, J.J. McCarthy of the Vikings, Mac Jones of the 49ers, and Tyler Huntley of the Ravens would probably all be less expensive for New York to bring in for the remainder of the season. Additionally, none of those players would be seen as a long-term replacement for Dart.

A quarterback trade to a division rival seems like an intriguing possibility, but not something I expect either team to realistically explore.
