It has been a pretty good week for Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren.
He signed a two-year contract extension with the Steelers yesterday. The new contract gives him some job security as he was previously set to play the 2025 season on a one-year deal.
That wasn't the end of the good news for Warren as Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has revealed how he plans to use his running backs heading into Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season.
During his weekly press conference, Tomlin revealed that Warren will be the team's feature back.
"Certainly he'll be our feature running back. We're not opposed, obviously, to utilizing Kenny G and Kaleb, and I'm sure you'll see them. At what time and to what degree, will be determined how the game unfolds."
It's a big step up for Warren.
Warren has served as the Steelers' second option for the past few seasons despite the inefficiency of Najee Harris as the team's lead option.
Over his three years in that role, Warren has racked up 1674 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns while averaging 4.8 yards per carry. He has also made 127 catches for 894 yards.
He'll still be facing some tough competition to keep his job as the feature back. The Steelers just spent a third-round pick on Kaleb Johnson after he ran for 1537 yards and 21 touchdowns during his final college season.
Pittsburgh also picked up Kenny Gainwell to give themselves more depth at the position.
Still, it looks like it will be Warren getting the first crack at the starting job to open the year as he gets the biggest opportunity of his NFL career.
