The Pittsburgh Steelers will begin the 2025 NFL season on the road in Week 1 as they travel to take on the New York Jets in an AFC matchup.
For the Steelers, they enter the season looking to compete at the top of the AFC standings after back-to-back 10-7 seasons after making multiple moves this offseason.
Of course, the biggest move the Steelers made this summer was when they signed four-time NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers to man their offense.
Pittsburgh also acquired DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks and landed Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.
By making these moves, the Steelers hope to compete for the AFC North crown this season against the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals.
With the Steelers just days away from kicking off the NFL season, they made a major decision on Tuesday afternoon as they released one of their veteran wide receivers.
On Tuesday, the Steelers announced that they have released veteran wide receiver Robert Woods from their practice squad.
“We have released WR Robert Woods from the Practice Squad,” the Steelers posted on X on Tuesday afternoon.

After the Steelers announced the decision, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Woods had asked for the Steelers to release him from their practice squad and it was granted by Pittsburgh.
Rapoport also mentioned in his report that a source said that Woods only wants to continue playing if he is on a 53-man roster and is playing.

The #Steelers handled the request solidly and understood.
For Woods, he will now be in search of a new home heading into Week 1 of the NFL season.
The 33-year-old receiver spent the last two seasons with the Houston Texans where he recorded a combined 629 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.
Over his 12 seasons in the NFL, Woods has posted 8,233 career receiving yards to go along with 38 touchdowns with his most successful seasons coming during his time with the Los Angeles Rams from 2017 to 2021.
While Woods now heads to the free agent market to find a new home, the Steelers will enter the 2025 season with Metcalf leading their receiver room along with Calvin Austin III, Scotty Miller, Roman Wilson and Ben Skowronek.
Pittsburgh hopes that this receiving core can help them improve their passing numbers compared to last season, which could be the case with Rodgers manning the offense at the quarterback position.
