NFL training camp is underway, and your Los Angeles Chargers are looking great so far. Nothing but good news has come out of camp, and many Charger players
According to Daniel Popper, the Chargers are signing WR John Hightower to their practice squad on Wednesday. Los Angeles’ practice squad now includes: T Zack Bailey WR Michael Bandy DL Joe Gaziano CB Kemon Hall CB Michael Jacquet TE Hunter Kampmoyer OLB Carlo Kemp S Raheem Layne LB Tyreek Maddox-Williams WR Jason Moore Jr.
John Hightower is back, as the former Boise State wide receiver inked a reserves/futures deal with the Eagles on Thursday. Hightower was a 2020 sixth-round pick and showed some early promise as a big-play weapon, logging nine catches for 166 yards in his first seven games, while being targeted, 24 times by then Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz.
The Eagles had four more players hit free agency on Monday after the wire revealed that John Hightower, KeeSean Johnson, Raequan Williams, and Luke Juriga all had their contracts expire per NFL communications.
A team that still needs wide receivers despite spending their last two first-round picks doesn’t appear to believe John Hightower can help. The Eagles released their list of 11 players they signed to Reserve/Future contracts.
Johnson’s best season came during his rookie campaign, when he collected 854 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns on 150 touches for the Lions.
It’s time to start learning about Tyree Jackson. The Eagles added the developmental tight end to their roster on Saturday, the day before they host the Los Angeles Chargers (4:05 p.m./CBS).
As the Eagles work to get down to the 53 player roster limit, John Hightower has also been waived according to John Clark and Dave Zangaro. Hightower joins Travis Fulgham and Andre Patton as wide receivers who have been waived or released over the past 48 hours.
John Hightower entered the 2020 NFL regular season as a training camp darling and a player to watch after a strong summer with Carson Wentz. Hightower’s strong debut fizzled out and the former Boise State star finished the year with just 10 catches for 167 yards on 29 targets.
As the Eagles break the huddle and wait for the official start of training camp, there are plenty of questions starting to arise. Positional battles under Nick Sirianni will be intense and the players on the edge of the roster will need to fight harder than ever to secure their futures.
Despite the positive test, Philadelphia's game against the Cleveland Browns has not been rescheduled or canceled at this time.
