They went down early, but as they have 17 times now, the Seattle Thunderbirds came away with the win. Chicago Blackhawks prospect Nolan Allan buried his first goal of the Memorial Cup as the Thunderbirds beat Peterborough 6-3 Saturday night. Seattle chased a couple leads but after going ahead 3-2, Allan corralled an outlet pass and took it into the zone, scoring from the left circle to double up the Petes.

The Thunderbirds yielded another goal, but Kevin Korchinski assisted on the fifth goal, a quick pass to Golden Knights prospect Jordan Gustafson who snapped a shot past Petes netminder Michael Simpson. Korchinski absorbed a hit less than a second after making the pass, earning that first assist of the Memorial Cup.

Colton Dach was held off the scoresheet but was still a +2 and was 50% in the faceoff circle. The Thunderbirds play again on Monday against QMJHL champion Quebec.

Goal and Assist Keeps Blackhawks Trio Points Streak Alive

In the 20 postseason games that Allan, Dach, and Korchinski have played in, one or more of the trio have registered points in all but two of the contests. In the first 12 games of the playoffs, one or more of the prospects found the scoresheet. Currently, they’re on a six-game point streak tallying a combined three goals and five assists in those contests.

One final stat: Whenever at least two of the trio register a point, the Thunderbirds are a perfect 10-0.  Korchinski and Allan are also the second and third ranked defensemen respectively in points on the team Heading into the Memorial Cup, Korchinski had 14 points (3-11) while Allan had 10 (2-8).
